2:42 – Routine Investments in Redemptive Friendships

Below is a brief outline for our Summer Preaching Calendar at Trinity. I write to ask you to pray that God would anoint the preaching and teaching ministries of our church.

Sermon Series: 2:42 – Routine Investments in Redemptive Friendships.
Acts 2:42 says: And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Devotion is an investment word. We invest in those things that matter to us. When we devote ourselves to something, we give steadfast attention to it… we give unremitting care to a thing. It is a steadfast and single-minded fidelity to a certain course of action.

This summer I want to urge us all towards a bit more intentionality in deepening two particular friendships: Your friendship with God and your friendship with others. When we invest in these two friendships, we invest in eternal things. This series will hopefully provide some ideas regarding: How do we cultivate a redemptive friendship with God and how do we cultivate redemptive friendships with others?

June 5, 2011 – Devoted to the Breaking of Bread (Mark 14:22-31)

In his book The Holiness of God, R.C. Sproul notes that the pattern of God’s transforming encounters with humans is always the same. God appears; humans respond with fear because of their sin; God forgives our sins and heals us (holiness and wholeness); then God sends us out to serve him.
