One hundred years ago, our President at the time, Woodrow Wilson, gave an important speech. The year was 1911. It was perhaps the last time a speech like this was ever given by an American president. It was a public address devoted completely to the Bible and its importance to our survival as a nation.

President Wilson grew up as a son of a Presbyterian minister and spent his formative years at First Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Augusta, Georgia where he learned and grew to love God’s Word.

Wilson called the Bible the magna carta of the human soul.  He ended his landmark speech by admonishing every man and woman in the audience…

“that from this night on, you will realize that the destiny of America lies in your daily perusal of this great book of revelations – that if you would see America free and pure, you will make your own spirits free and pure by this baptism of the Holy Scripture.”

During these busy days of preparing for the holidays, don’t neglect to baptize your own mind and heart with a regular intake of God’s Word. For Jesus said: “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
