A Prayer of Intercession for Fathers on Father’s Day

Father’s Day is coming soon on June 18th. Here is a way to pray for our earthly dads.

We come to you this day… For you are God the Father Almighty.

You are the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of all of us who believe in Him.

We praise you for creating heaven and earth and all that is in them.

You uphold and govern all things by your eternal counsel and providence.

You are our eternal Father, strong to save.

Grant us grace to trust so completely in You as to have no doubt

that You will provide us with all things necessary for body and soul,

that You will also turn to our good whatever adversity You send us in this life of sorrow. You are able to do so as almighty God, and willing to do so as a faithful Father.

“I pray that in all respects our fathers may prosper. That they may be in good health, and, most of all, that their souls would prosper.” (3 John 2, NASB).

“I pray for them that their love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that he may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11, ESV)

According to the riches of Your glory, grant them to be strengthened with power through Your Spirit in their inner being, so that Christ may dwell in their heart through faith–that they, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that they may be filled with all of your fullness.” (Ephesians 3:14-19, ESV)

“God, grant to them in fullest measure…

Your strength to sustain them, Your power to uphold them,

Your wisdom to guide them,

Your eye upon them, Your ear attentive to their cry,

Your word for their speech, Your hand to protect them,

Your path before them, Your shield for their shelter,

Your angels to guard them from ambush of devils, from sin’s allurements,

from traps of the world, the flesh, and the devil, and from all who wish them ill.”

“Christ be beside them, before them, behind them, within them, beneath them,

above them. Christ be on their right hand, on their left,

where they lie, where they sit, and where they rise.

Christ be in the hearts of all who think of them, in the mouths of all who speak to them,

in every eye that sees them, in every ear that hears them.”

“Father, thank you for these fathers. Continue and complete your work in them,

grant that they may walk with you like Enoch, believe you like Abraham,

wrestle with you like Jacob, know your hand on their life like Joseph,

speak face-to-face with you like Moses, win battles for you like Gideon,

speak boldly for you like Elijah, worship you like David, see you high and lifted up like Isaiah,

and carry Jesus’ cross like Simon of Cyrene.”

“Lord, bless these fathers and keep them; make Your face to shine upon them and be gracious to them;

lift up Your countenance upon them and give them your peace.”

For we pray in the matchless name of your Son, our Savior, Jesus, AMEN.
