When Forgetful Hearts Hear the Risen Christ

LUKE 24:1–8

The angels at the empty tomb brought a message of comfort and courage. Matthew highlights their words: “Do not be afraid” (Matt. 28:5). Because Christ is risen, believers in every age have no reason to fear—not the last day, not judgment, not death itself. When Christ appears in glory and the world is undone, all who are clothed in His righteousness will stand secure, spotless, and safe in Him—the true and better ark.

Luke emphasizes the angelic reminder: “Remember how He told you … that the Son of Man must be delivered … and on the third day rise” (Luke 24:6–7). Only then did the women remember His words. They had heard them before, but they had not taken them to heart.

Forgetfulness is a common spiritual weakness—even among the redeemed. We easily let go of the promises, warnings, and comforts of Christ until trials force us to remember what He said long ago. The remedy is not simply a sharper memory but a deeper love: we remember what we treasure. Set your heart on Christ, fix your mind on things above, and His Word will stay bright before your eyes.

Christ is risen. His promises are true. His people are secure.

Prayer:

Risen Lord Jesus,

Thank You for the empty tomb that silences our fears and confirms every promise You have made.

Forgive us for how easily we forget Your words, Your warnings, and Your comforts. By Your Spirit, write Your truth deep into our hearts.

Help us to treasure You so fully that Your promises remain bright before our eyes. Strengthen our faith, steady our hope, and fix our love on You alone. Amen.
