The Emmaus disciples believed some of what the prophets taught, but not all. They embraced the promises of the Messiah’s glory while stumbling over the necessity of His sufferings (v. 25). Many still make the same mistake—receiving parts of Scripture while resisting the whole counsel of God.

Jesus gently corrects them by declaring the full truth: The Christ must suffer before He reigns (v. 26). The cross is not a detour from glory; it is the road to it.
Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus shows that all Scripture points to Him (v. 27). Every sacrifice, deliverer, prophet, and priest was a shadow; Christ is the substance. He is the true Lamb. He is the greater Moses and the promised King. He is the final High Priest and the conquering Seed who crushes the serpent’s head.
Let this be our settled conviction: Christ is the blazing center of the Bible. Read Scripture with Him in view, and its meaning comes into focus. Miss Him, and even the Old Testament remains a collection of loose ends.
Prayer: Lord, give to me and all whom I love a deep hunger for your Word. When we read it, open our eyes to the beauty of Jesus who is it’s blazing center. Amen.
