Have you ever wondered why we regularly confess our sins to God during our worship services?
The regular discipline of confession enables us to grasp more fully the beauty and wonder of grace as we are made continually aware of the depth of our need of God’s unmerited favor.
Christopher Ash explains why we confess our sins:
“To encourage self-examination that leads to daily repentance,
not morbid introspection that leads to despair.”
Therefore, do not ever let these times of confession lead you to despair
since God’s Word reminds you what our God does with your sin.
“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.Return to me, for I have redeemed you” (Isaiah 44:22).
Our corporate prayer of confession serves to prime the pump of your heart in facilitating an honest confession of your particular sins to the Lord.
One of the most encouraging moments in our service occurs when one of our leaders/liturgists says:
“…if your faith is in Jesus Christ, then I can assure you, based on the promise of God’s Word, that your sins are forgiven….”
Let us remember today how forgiven, accepted and loved we are by our Lord.
Thank God for his Grace!
