How Do We Change?

2 Peter 1-3Have you ever felt powerless to change? A besetting sin or a bad habit? How do we change? The Apostle Peter reminds us that we are powerless to change but our mighty God acts to accomplish something only he can. It is the ultimate change. for it not only has ramifications for this life but also for eternity. The Bible calls it our eternal salvation – our deliverance from the penalty, power, and presence of sin! Here Peter describes this salvation as “life and godliness.”
Our spiritual condition before our conversion was that “we were dead in our trespasses and sins” causing us to be described as “ungodly.” How amazing that God would pour out upon us His transforming power by the Holy Spirit giving us eternal life and creating in us a desire to grow in godly character.
What a comforting promise that we have all that we need to live a life that mirrors the character of our God. Grace results in a life of godliness as we grow in our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a life-long process that ends with us entering into and experiencing His glory! Let us pray for the Lord to so transform us that we indeed begin to mirror the character of our God – in our thinking, our attitudes, and our actions!
