In Matthew 23:1–12, Jesus warns against hypocrisy, pride, and seeking human praise, calling His followers instead to live with humility, integrity, and a heart to serve rather than to be exalted.
Here are three prayer requests drawn from a devotional reading of this passage:
Prayer for Integrity and Humility
“Lord, guard my heart from hypocrisy. Help me to live consistently what I profess so that my actions reflect the truth of the gospel and not just words. Make my private devotion match my public confession… my conduct match my creed.
Prayer for Freedom from the Praise of Man
Father, deliver me from the desire to be seen, admired, or praised by others. Teach me to seek only Your approval and to find my joy in being known and loved by You. May Your approval be what I long for.
Prayer for a Servant’s Heart
Jesus, make me a humble servant rather than one who seeks preeminence. Help me to follow Your example of leadership through service, pointing others to You and not to myself.
That was good! Thanks!
