When Jesus appeared to His fearful disciples, He lovingly gave them visible, tangible proof of His resurrection. He showed them His hands and His side—real wounds in a real, risen body. He wanted them to know beyond question: the crucified Lord is now the living Lord.
Even in glory, Jesus is the Lamb who was slain (Rev. 5:6). His scars remain a perpetual testimony that our salvation was purchased by His suffering. When He returns, we will see the same Jesus—risen, bodily, and bearing the marks of His redeeming love.
Christ’s condescension to the disciples’ weakness teaches us something vital: true faith is never opposed to honest, God-given reason. Jesus never asked His followers to deny what their eyes and senses plainly revealed. Christianity contains mysteries beyond our understanding, but it never asks us to believe contradictions.
Therefore, we hold fast to the risen Christ—not a vague spirit, not a myth, but the living Savior who conquered death in a real body. And as He sent His disciples forth in the power of the Spirit, so He sends us, grounded in truth and strengthened by His peace.
Prayer:
Risen Lord Jesus, draw near to our fearful hearts and reveal Yourself again as the living Savior. May the sight of Your wounds deepen our faith and assure us of Your great love. Flood our hearts with Your peace, fill us with Your Spirit, and send us out as witnesses to Your resurrection power just like You did for Your first disciples. Amen.
