How gracious Christ is toward slow and struggling believers. Thomas refused to accept the united testimony of ten fellow disciples. He insisted on seeing and touching the risen Lord for himself. His stubborn unbelief could have justly earned rebuke—but Jesus responded with astonishing patience.
A full week later, Christ returned, seemingly for Thomas alone. He met Thomas at his level of weakness. “Put your finger here… put out your hand…” If Thomas needed the most tangible proof, Jesus freely offered it. Such mercy shows a love that surpasses knowledge and a patience beyond understanding.
This passage was written for the comfort of ordinary disciples like us—dull, slow, doubting, often fearful. The Spirit wants us to know that Jesus is endlessly patient with His own. He bears with our infirmities and does not cast us off.
So let us learn from our Lord. Do not judge others harshly for weak faith or faint love. Remember Thomas. Be gentle, patient, and merciful. Christ has many frail children, hesitant students, and limping sheep—and He holds every one with steadfast grace.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for Your patience with my weak and wavering faith.
Just as You met Thomas in his doubts, meet me in mine.
Make me trust Your wounds, rest in Your mercy, and grow gentle toward others who struggle.
Hold me fast in Your steadfast love, and keep shaping me into Your likeness.
Amen.
