“My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you… write them on the tablet of your heart.”
—Proverbs 7:1–3
Going grocery shopping while hungry is dangerous—you reach for what won’t truly satisfy. Scripture warns us the same is true spiritually: when we are full, we can resist temptation; when we are hungry, even what is bitter can seem sweet (Prov. 27:7).
Purity is not sustained by willpower alone but by a heart well-fed on God’s Word. Solomon urges us not merely to read Scripture, but to cherish it—to treasure it, guard it like the apple of our eye, bind it to our lives, and write it on our hearts. The Bible was never meant to be a textbook we consult occasionally, but a delight that shapes our desires (Ps. 1:2).
There is a direct link between delighting in God’s Word and walking in purity. When Scripture no longer satisfies us, sin soon will. But when God’s Word dwells richly within us, it guards us from straying (Ps. 119:9).
Ultimately, this Word points us to Jesus Christ, the true and living Word (John 1:14). To cherish Scripture is to cherish Christ Himself—to feed daily on His truth, His promises, and His grace. As we abide in Him, our desires are reordered and our lives made holy.
So make a plan. Memorize Scripture. Meditate on it. Feast on the Word—and you will find your heart strengthened to walk in purity.

Prayer:
Gracious Father,
We thank You for Your Word, which is living and active and leads us to Your Son.
Forgive us for the ways we neglect it and seek satisfaction elsewhere.
Give us hearts that treasure Your truth, minds that delight in it, and lives shaped by it.
By Your Spirit, help us to abide in Christ, the Living Word, that our desires would be purified and our lives made faithful.
Feed us daily, satisfy us fully, and keep us walking humbly with You for Your glory.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
