When You Feel Guilty About Your Prayer Life

My physical and mental weakness dictates intermittent intercession. I grow weary in prayer and my mind often wanders. I sometimes fall asleep during the most important times of intercession.

But not Christ! He ever lives to make intercession for us. His intercession is unending. Day by day, hour by hour, year by year, millennium by millennium. Christ prays for us. He along with the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26-27) takes our feeble prayers, cleans them up, ennobles them and presents them to the Father.

Here’s a great word from Louis Berkhof:

“It is a consoling thought that Christ is praying for us, even when we are negligent in our prayer life, that He is presenting to the Father those spiritual needs which were not present to our minds and which we often neglect to include in our prayers; and that He prays for our protection against the dangers of which we are not even conscious, and against the enemies which threaten us, though we do not notice it. He is praying that our faith may not cease, and that we may come victoriously to our end” (Quoted in Wayne Grudem‘s Systematic Theology, p.628).
