Psalm 69 and Romans 11 remind us that our God is holy, just, merciful, sovereign, and faithful. And all of these attributes find full expression in Jesus Christ.

Psalm 69 reminds us that God sees suffering, injustice, and sin. He is not indifferent to what happens to His people. And remarkably, David’s suffering points us forward to Christ—the truly righteous Sufferer who was rejected, despised, and ultimately went to the cross for sinners.

Romans 11 reminds us that salvation is entirely by grace. We are not standing before God because we were better, wiser, or more deserving. We have been grafted in by faith. “You stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear” (Romans 11:20).

That means there is no room for boasting—only gratitude.

It also means we can trust God when we cannot understand what He is doing. His purposes are deeper than ours, His wisdom greater than ours, and His promises more certain than our circumstances.

Paul’s response to all of this is worship:

“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!”
— Romans 11:33

And then:

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”
— Romans 11:36

That is where I want to land today: God is faithful even when His providence is difficult to understand. Christ has secured our salvation, grace has brought us into God’s family, and nothing can thwart God’s good purposes.

So we can live…

– humbly because we are saved by grace,

– faithfully because God keeps His promises,

– and confidently because God is sovereign.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, when I cannot understand what You are doing, help me remember who You are. You are wise, merciful, holy, sovereign, and faithful. Because You gave Yourself for me at the cross and reign at the Father’s right hand, I can trust You even when I cannot trace Your hand. Keep me humble, faithful, and confident in Your grace. And may my life bring glory to You. Amen.
